After a year and a half of ...
Writing
Rewriting
Losing sight of my goal
Receiving feedback
Tweaking
Proofreading
Despairing
Cover design
Being unable to write anything else
Typesetting
Three print proofs
Questioning what the hell I let myself in for
Plus, probably a few hundred more steps that escape me right now
... I have a publication date, and my independent debut is ready to go.
Roll on Friday the 14th of November 2025. (Gulp.)
All said and done, if someone had told me a few years ago that I would one day write and publish 'Sweet Valentine', I wouldn't have believed them. Not only because Valentine herself seemed to come out of nowhere at me one day, and proceeded to write herself a story, but also because of the sheer nervousness that self-publishing once instilled in me. Sure, self-publishing still makes me a bit nervous (it's all on me, so how could it not!); however, the knowledge is all out there, and sometimes all we need is the encouragement to go for it. The same can be said for so many things in life.
In future blog posts, I want to share some of my own experiences as a first-time self-publishing author, in the hope that maybe they encourage someone else. For now, though, I'm just hoping that when Friday the 14th of November comes around, I haven't forgotten to tweak anything important.
Ending on a positive: I've started writing again ... with a view to doing it all again.
